About Jonathan & Libby
D&E is a family-run small neighborhood restaurant that is passionate about supporting the Pioneer Square community.
Husband and wife owners, Jonathan Fleming & Libby Aker are well ingrained in the Seattle restaurant industry with a combined 30 years of experience. They hail from some of the city’s best, well established restaurants. After living and working in Pioneer Square for several years, they fell in love with the sense of community, camaraderie and history that Seattle’s oldest neighborhood embodies. Opening D&E has been a lifelong goal of the couple, creating a welcoming neighborhood spot with an approachable menu and affordable pricing.
About Chef Ben
Struck by his incredible passion for food the couple has trusted Chef Ben Davison with culinary operations at D&E. An east-coast transplant, Ben graduated from the acclaimed Culinary Institute of America at Hyde Park and has worked in some of the world’s greatest food regions.
At D&E, Ben oversees a kitchen making everything in house using seasonal and local produce along with sustainably raised proteins. His Philadelphia upbringing, along with his time spent in the American South, France and Spain continually influences his cooking.
Ben also holds a PhD in history from the University of Virginia and has written extensively on American foodways, knowledge that informs his cooking, especially in his adaptation of historical recipes for a modern audience. His writing has appeared in the Washington Post, National Public Radio, and his first book, National Roots: Environmentalism and the Creation of the America Chef will be released in the University of Florida Press in 2020.
